Whitaker Bayou is considerably cleaner after a terrific group of 56 volunteers, including Riverview High School and Sarasota High School marine clubs, plucked all types of trash from in, around, and on the water via kayak and jon boat. Big thanks to the Sarasota Bay Estuary Program for the Bay Partners grant that made this cleanup possible.
Over 1200 pounds of trash were removed from the creek! Some noteworthy items: rolling suitcase, mutant ninja turtle, BB gun, skateboard, flat screen tv, hubcaps, frying pan, and a golf caddie!
