Muddy, Wet, and Worth It: Creek Cleanup a Huge Success

What an incredible day of community, hard work, and environmental stewardship! On a beautiful, sunny day, 35 dedicated volunteers came together to make a real impact on our local creek—and the results were nothing short of inspiring.

Four small boats, 15 kayaks, two paddleboarders, and a team of land-based helpers tackled the mangroves and shoreline with enthusiasm and determination. The tide was high, the water was clear, and even the fish seemed to be jumping in celebration. Our mission: clean up the mangroves and shoreline, and bring awareness to the health of this beautiful waterway.

Thanks to the generous support of our community, we were able to make this event a success. A huge shoutout goes to Priscilla for providing a place to park the trailer—an essential part of the operation. And to Luke—your dump trailer was a vital to move all of the debris. Without your help, this cleanup simply wouldn’t have been possible.

Among the 35 volunteers were 14 students earning community service hours, all working shoulder to shoulder with other residents and creek-lovers. Together, we pulled out 1,620 pounds of trash from the creek’s edge and surrounding mangroves. Some of the more unusual finds included an old computer monitor, lawn chairs, dock pieces, an infant car seat, trash and recycling bins, plant pots, BBQ grills, a massive round plastic feeder, a dock box, and even a permit document housing.

It wasn’t a clean job—our volunteers returned wet and muddy—but it was deeply rewarding. We were fortunate to have shaded picnic benches where folks could relax, cool off, and share stories over refreshments. New friendships were formed, all built on a shared love for the creek and a commitment to preserving it.

To everyone who pitched in: thank you. Your time, energy, and generosity helped protect a precious local ecosystem and made a tangible difference. We look forward to seeing you at the next cleanup!

Stay connected—and stay muddy!
