Volunteers fanned out from Ken Thompson Park to assigned points along the bay to take a count scallops living in the area, a key indicator of the overall health of the bay. Numbers gathered in the count show the scallops are thriving surprisingly well after a long absence from Sarasota Bay, counting 826 today alone.
