“How’s The Bay Today?” Clam and Scallop Search!

This year is our 12th annual Great Scallop Search and this year we will also be asking the question “How’s the bay today?”! In addition to scallops we will also be assessing our local clam population after the successful release of 250,000 clams last year!

When: August 24th 8:30am —-Lunch to follow
Where: Sarasota Sailing Squadron.
Purpose of event: Help to monitor annually the number of scallops and clams in Sarasota Bay waters and support scientific study at the Florida Wildlife Research Institute while gathering general information on the flora and fauna of our waters.
What to bring: Sunscreen, hat and sunglasses, mask, snorkel, fins and water shoes.
Reservations are required to participate in the event. Space is limited, Boats limited to 50, kayaks welcome! No boat? Sign on as a crew member and you will be placed on a boat, space permitting. Participants will be equipped and trained on how to search for scallops in seagrass.
