Monofilament Cleanup

November 19, 2023 @ 8:30 AM 12:30 PM

Picture1

We will be removing fishing line and gear from bridges in the bird-nesting habitat, islands and coastlines, piers and jetties to protect our sea birds from fishing line entanglement — which almost always results in death.

Picture2

We are looking for volunteers with boats, kayaks, and those who can help on-foot. A light lunch will be provided after the cleanup for participants. Students will receive community service hours.

While you’re out and about enjoying the weekend, take a moment to look around for line and lures that have been left behind and are hazardous to birds and marine life. Collect it and bring it over to the Sarasota Sailing Squadron during the event on Sunday, November 19 between 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Bring a refillable water bottle and sunscreen, sturdy footwear, eye protection, a hat, gloves and an enthusiastic, thankful spirit!

For Questions please contact Ronda Ryan at (941) 232-2363.

Clean-up Location: Meet at Sarasota Sailing Squadron – 1717 Ken Thompson Parkway, Sarasota 34236
