Sarasota Bay Watch Volunteers Measuring Monofilament At Mote Marine

SBW Monofilament Cleanups Protect Sea Birds

Recently 15 MOTE interns measured 292 yards (2.92 football fields) of entangling debris that was collected by SBW volunteers during their 2014 island and coastal shoreline cleanups.  This data is shared with local and state scientists working on entanglement issues. Removing fishing line from bird nesting habitat, islands and coastlines helps to protect our sea birds from fishing line entanglement ‹ which almost always results in death.
